Project Location - Longannet Power Station

Ewan McMillan
Station Manager
Longannet Power Station is the third largest coal-fired power station in Europe. It generates 2400 megawatts of electricity, which is enough to power over two million homes throughout the UK.
It is a regional landmark, dominating the Forth skyline with its 183 m (600 feet) chimney stack.
It is ideally located on the upper Firth of Forth an inlet on the East coast of Scotland, in close proximity to the Central North Sea - an area that the best science shows is ideally suited to CO2 storage.
"This equipment could be fitted onto Longannet much quicker than anywhere else and Longannet could be operating carbon capture, transport and storage into very viable storage sites probably by 2013"
Professor Stuart Haszeldine, Edinburgh University, BBC Radio Scotland 23 April 2009
